George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal produced the American fantasy drama television series House of the Dragon for HBO. It is the second television series in the A Song of Ice and Fire franchise and a prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019).
The story begins around 100 years after the Targaryen Conquest unites the Seven Kingdoms, nearly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen is born. It is based in part on Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood. This ensemble cast production depicts the events leading up to the start of House Targaryen’s downfall, including the catastrophic “Dance of the Dragons” succession conflict.
